Description: The California Protected Areas Database (CPAD) contains data on lands owned in fee by governments, non-profits and some private entities that are protected for open space purposes. Data includes all such areas in California, from small urban parks to large national parks and forests, mostly aligned to assessor parcel boundaries. Data is collected by Holdings (parcels) which are aggregated to Units (commonly named areas within counties) and Super Units (commonly named areas generally).CPAD was used for the Final_LandOwnership_Sierra_Aug2017 dataset. For this Feb2018 dataset, Surface Ownership parcels (basic ownership) from the USDA Forest Service FSGeodata Clearinghouse were integrated into the Aug2017 dataset in order to update the USFS lands. Basic Ownership provides the general user with the Forest Service versus non-Forest Service view of land ownership within National Forest boundaries. Polygons attributed as "USDA Forest Service" were selected out of the Basic Ownership dataset, then used to clip a "hole" in the Aug2017 ownership dataset, then merged into the Aug 2017 dataset to create the Feb2018 dataset. Since boundaries between the Aug2017 (CPAD) and new Feb2018 (USFS ) data sets were not co-incident, many slivers were created during geoprocessing. Slivers were corrected for manually.In addition, Wilderness areas from the USDA Forest Service FSGeodata Clearinghouse were integrated though the Union geoprocessing function.In addition, RoadLess_ares from the SierraBluePrint FSdata folder were integrated through the Union geoprocessing function.
