description: The California Freshwater Blueprint is a collaborative effort by The Nature Conservancy, Trout Unlimited, UC Davis, UC Merced, CA Department of Fish and Wildlife, and other partners to use systematic conservation planning to: 1) Identify freshwater conservation targets and map their presence/absence within California watersheds; 2) Define goals for representation of freshwater targets or biodiversity within an efficiently configured network using a conservation planning software, while accounting for existing protected areas; 3) Identify a network of priority watersheds critical to the conservation of the state’s freshwater biodiversity, and evaluate that network relative to existing protected areas and freshwater habitats; and 4) Characterize the condition and threats of the priority network to inform conservation strategies.
